Best method:

1. Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Wrap the geode in a thick towel or cloth to contain small fragments.
3. Place it on a stable surface (outdoors is recommended).
4. Use a flathead screwdriver or cold chisel, placing the tip along a natural seam or around the midpoint of the geode.
5. Lightly tap the screwdriver with a hammer, rotating around the geode and tapping gently rather than striking hard.
6. The shell will naturally split, helping reduce shattering and excess fragments.
