These geodes are not hard to break, so gentle technique matters more than force.
Best method:
- Wear safety glasses and gloves.
- Wrap the geode in a thick towel or cloth to contain small fragments.
- Place it on a stable surface (outdoors is recommended).
- Use a flathead screwdriver or cold chisel, placing the tip along a natural seam or around the midpoint of the geode.
- Lightly tap the screwdriver with a hammer, rotating around the geode and tapping gently rather than striking hard.
- The shell will naturally split, helping reduce shattering and excess fragments.
⚠️ Important: Avoid heavy blows. These geodes respond best to light, controlled taps, which helps produce a cleaner split and preserves more of the crystal interior.
