Obsidian is quite unique due to its smooth, uniform volcanic glass texture. Obsidian is usually considered an extrusive rock, because it usually solidifies above Earth’s surface where the edges of a lava flow come into contact with cool air or water. Obsidian has been used across history to make weapons, implements, tools, ornaments, and mirrors. Because of its conchoidal fracture (smooth curved surfaces and sharp edges), the sharpest stone artifacts were fashioned from obsidian. Black obsidian is often associated with mystery and has a very strong ability to absorb. For this reason it is used often in feng shui, spiritual connection and protection.
